Calling Cards

Calling cards, more-so visiting cards, have been around for quite a longtime, beginning in fifteenth century China, and later in seventeenth century Europe. As such visiting cards have gone through a myriad aesthetic forms. This metamorphic card started as a way for the upper echelons of a society to introduce one's self to other aristocrats, or royalty. However, due to formalities, royalty, and aristocrats alike, would not deliver their respective calling cards themselves, for the most part. Instead, they would send out footmen to deliver their visiting cards, and if one was received back then a visit between the recipients was to be had.

Although, the practice of delivering calling cards largely died out when communication became quicker and less of a commodity in the late nineteenth century with the invention of the telegraph. When the telegraph, among other cultural shifts, came to fruition business cards became more prominent in societies, as it was uncouth to put anything but one's name on a visiting card.

However, calling cards are making a resurgence in today's society and now have the addition of forms of contact. The calling card is still used for high etiquette interactions, however these interactions are generally not business minded.
